Despite its non-conformity, “Dark Tides” possesses exceptional depth. It compels us to contemplate, feel, and experience, as if slowly descending into the mysterious waters reflected in its title. Everything is meticulously crafted – and oh yes, all this beauty will be unveiled very soon. The “Dark Tides” album is set to release on April 23, and I’ve just returned from an exclusive listening session, eager to share my impressions with you. What to expect from one of the most anticipated albums of the year, read below.

“Dark Tides” is the debut solo album by Paul Bidault, where the boundless abyss of betrayal, loss, and apocalypse unfolds. Sealed in solitude, as if confined in a darkened cave, this album sounds as if imbued with a dark harmony that Bidault himself can control and manipulate, while we, the listeners, can only observe his performance as spectators. Saturated with darkness and sorrow, “Dark Tides” serves as an auditory handwritten diary where blood and suffering saturate every note. Combining the ominous musical palette of Stevan Krakovich and the sonic signature of two-time Grammy nominee JJ Golden, “Dark Tides” is a world of monstrous imagery and cinematic absurdities.

Three things struck me. Firstly, the stunning world-building in the album. Every detail is meticulously thought out. There’s not a single extraneous song, nor any “non-working” or superfluous instrument. Behind each track lies a whole story; they are fully alive and tangible. The precise portrayal through music of the Depression era, the dusty circus where Paul Bidault is the main clown, evil or good? Hmm, that’s a very good question.

Secondly, the artistry and concept of the album. The songs, the artworks – they are all building blocks that form a cohesive picture.

Thirdly, all of this and much more leads to an astounding atmospheric quality. Perhaps, I haven’t listened to such an atmospheric album in a long time. The sands of deserts, circus lights, devilishly beautiful lyrics,… mystique and realism in one bottle. Amazing!

Among the ten tracks, ominous as their own eclipse, standout “Devil Dressed in White”, “Who Do You Think You Are?”, and “End of Times”, each of which is like a stone in the mosaic of profound tragedy.

“Devil Dressed in White” gently envelops the listener, introducing them to Paul Bidault’s unique world. It’s like a dark western, where cinematic guitars resonate, and a powerful orchestra with trumpets and marches creates a special atmosphere.

“Who Do You Think You Are?” challenges like a whirlwind, piercing the space with its devilish mood and hints of a musical.

“End of Time” and “Flesh and Bone” immerse us in the atmosphere of apocalypse, enveloping us with their sounds and vibrations, infused with dark energy.

There’s also the track “Cannibals” – perhaps the most romantic song on the album, like a dark ballad intertwined with elements of country. Every note is permeated with feelings and mystery. It seems that based on Paul Bidault’s unique style, a whole direction in music could already be formed.

On “Dark Tides,” you won’t find a single song with a duration of less than four minutes, and that definitely adds to its charm. Each track unfolds, revealing its story and emotional nuance throughout its entire duration. This allows each composition to fully realize its potential and engulf the listener in its dark world. Such a languid and unhurried approach gives the album depth and density, making it even more appealing to those who appreciate music capable of captivating you into its own reality and not letting go until the last note.

The full version of the album, packed with 10 fantastic tracks, will be exclusively available on Paul’s website. If you prefer the digital version, it’ll feature 8 tracks to groove to. Very soon, on April 24th, the world will be presented with something truly magnificent. I am confident that “Dark Tides” is destined to become a cult album. I sincerely believe that everyone who values true art in music should give it a listen. Don’t miss the chance to plunge into the dark waves of “Dark Tides.”
