The independent music industry has always been open to musicians who strive to express their most sincere emotions and thoughts through music, without being confined by the strict boundaries of commercial popularity. Brian Halloran is a musician who remains true to his art despite all the challenges and changes in the music industry. And I don’t think I need to remind you that true art requires not only a bright commercial wrapper but also the ability to speak to the world in the language of feelings and emotions. Halloran manages to do this. His music has the power to unite people, inspire them, and help them explore the depths of their own inner world. And with each new release, Brian demonstrates this more vividly.

Following the highly successful “The Cocktail Hour” of 2023, Brian Halloran is pushing further with the upcoming release of his new album, “Overnumerousness,” set to be available on all digital platforms very soon, on May 7th. It’s worth noting that this new iteration of the album promises to deliver an even more immersive experience, with each track meticulously crafted to captivate listeners from start to finish. Originally dropped in 2020, Overnumerousness has been remixed and remastered, bringing a fresh vibe to the table.
In the new album, Brian Halloran revisits the roots of vibrant indie-pop sound, incorporating elements of synth-pop and 80s pop classics. “Overnumerousness” features 10 tracks, each telling love stories akin to short films. Despite the album’s total duration of 30 minutes, this timing is more than enough to fully immerse oneself in Brian Halloran’s sound and narratives. Each song carries a charge of optimistic and energetic indie-pop, making the album particularly appealing to modern listeners. I had the opportunity to listen to the album before its release, and I’m excited to share this remarkable release with you.
The album kicks off with the track “A.K.A,” where Brian Halloran lays bare the pain and suffering, engaging in self-admonishing rumination about the one who left. This powerful beginning, filled with bitter feelings, immediately sets the tone for the entire album, as despite the somber theme, each note carries a hope for a happier future. Then, in “I Got Nothing For You,” the song stands out for its straightforwardness and honesty in depicting failures in the search for love and understanding in the digital age. The lead single, “Hip Flask (feat. Michelle Rescigno),” where Brian Halloran duets with Michelle Rescigno, explores the personal experiences of a couple finding resolution to their drama behind a bar counter. This song acts as a bridge between past and present, reminding us of the timeless relevance of human emotions. I admire how Brian blends complex themes with bright and catchy pop sounds. It sounds perfect!

Then, the tracks “Hurricane Season” and “Tongue And Groove” introduce a new sound to the album. In “Hurricane Season,” thanks to the unique French horn arrangements by Emmett O’Malley, the track acquires such a bright and luminous shade, but the following track, “Tongue And Groove,” is filled with deeper indie-pop tones, with a touch of melancholy.
Brian Halloran has prepared plenty of surprises in the album, playing with atmosphere, sound, and style. The final tracks, “Linda, Honey, Listen” and “The MacGuffin,” are vibrant and captivating, leaving a perfect aftertaste. In “Linda, Honey, Listen,” each act is charged with stunning energy, while the closing track, “The MacGuffin,” soothes and remains memorable due to its cool hooks and perfect sound quality. “The MacGuffin” stays true to the album’s theme, reflecting on personal relationships and their unexpected turns, concluding the album on a deep and contemplative note. The light-hearted stories in the album become a little life of their own, made possible by Brian Halloran’s talent. Flawless!
Every track on the album “Overnumerousness” was written, performed, and produced by Brian Halloran, and it’s truly remarkable work. The high-quality production sounds incredible and immediately sets the album apart. Brian Halloran has managed to create an album where each track possesses individuality and a unique style. In a world where music often succumbs to commercial interests and mass demands, Brian Halloran remains true to his creed—to create art that evolves alongside his personal and musical growth.
Like a true artist, Brian Halloran isn’t afraid to experiment and explore new horizons, even when it comes to pop music. He doesn’t stand still, he’s constantly moving forward, seeking new forms of expression and new musical stories ready to tell tales of human experiences and emotions. Therefore, yes, I can confidently say that this new album is the result of his tireless pursuit of perfection, brought to life through his talent and creative energy. The album will be released on May 7th, so mark your calendars and be prepared to be amazed!
