Colombian artist ALETHIA, who now lives in Naarm (Australia), has earned a loyal army of fans. After six years in Australia, ALETHIA has taken her music to a new level, earning nominations at the Music Victoria Awards (2023) and the Latin Grammy Awards. Channeling all her skills and abilities, Alethia released her debut album under her own name. The concept of the album is akin to a movie – cohesive and grand. “ALETHIA” features ten tracks divided into four chapters: roots, nostalgia, love, and hope.

In her debut album, ALETHIA has built a real world where every detail is honed to perfection. “ALETHIA” touches on various genres and styles, from folk and electro-pop to Drum & Bass, allowing listeners to experience a range of emotions and feelings. Only after the release and subsequent listening do you slowly begin to understand what this record is truly about. It is a part of ALETHIA’s soul, laying bare the truth of what is happening in her mind. Each of these ten songs tells a meaningful story that makes you think.

Roots

The first chapter of the album, “Roots,” begins with “Almita Mia.” This track features gentle birdsong, acoustic riffs, and wind instruments, creating a very light and airy feel that evokes thoughts of family and devotion. “Almita Mia” is filled with a sense of attachment and the small vulnerabilities of love. ALETHIA wrote this song for her mother, expressing the purpose she found through her family. ALETHIA’s impeccable vocals and extensive harmonies create an ethereal atmosphere of tenderness.

I love how the electric guitar in “Mondero,” with its slight mineral tint, shifts the sound’s direction. This light indie track invites reflections on love. An excellent beat with a playful touch and a stylish bass line gives the feeling of entirely new soundscapes. In “Mondero,” ALETHIA explores first love and the development of these relationships, which, however, fall apart in the next track, “To You.”

Nostalgia

The first part of the album is sung in Spanish, and these melodies envelop you in the warmth of southern nights. Then, seamlessly, the English part begins, adding a sense of duality. With the track “To You,” ALETHIA opens a new chapter of the album – Nostalgia. Here, the music starts to breathe differently: tense guitar riffs meet expansive electronic beats, and ALETHIA’s airy vocals add a touch of mystique. This song symbolizes the end of a relationship, highlighted by sharp beats and a vivid rhythmic pattern that seems to dissolve into the track’s haze. Then, in “Utopia,” she creates an intimate space, as if inviting the listener to a tête-à-tête, sharing secrets in a secluded, quiet atmosphere.

Love

The chapter of the album titled “Love” begins with the track “Don’t Let Me Down,” which sounds like a passionate promise to oneself – a promise of love. This electro-pop track surprises with its texture and richness of beat, where every sound feels tangible. “Don’t Let Me Down” showcases ALETHIA as a master of various genres, expertly handling elements of electronic music. Next comes “Physical Form,” a track that fills the space with the energy of Drum & Bass. The continuous, enticing rhythm and ALETHIA’s sweet, passionate vocals create a sense of intimate closeness. This song is an ode to physical love, expressed through the close connection of bodies.

Hope

The final chapter of the album, “Hope,” consists of two interconnected tracks—”Falling” and “Oh Darling,” which beautifully conclude ALETHIA’s revelations. These are tender compositions, united by their common style and emotional depth. In “Falling,” ALETHIA’s vocals echo and disperse, while light guitars and percussion create a hazy atmosphere, reflecting the ebb and flow of the universe.

In contrast, “Oh Darling” focuses entirely on ALETHIA’s voice, which reaches its full bloom here. This track is a true masterpiece, showcasing her entire vocal range and creating a romantic atmosphere. The light guitar and soothing rhythm add to the tenderness, and ALETHIA’s voice sounds almost angelic. It’s the perfect ending to the album.
