Take a Wild Ride Through RiFFiNDoTs’ Mind with Her Latest Drop, ‘Magick’

Imagine: you’re in an old vinyl record store, and suddenly you spot a record with such a cover that you instantly feel there’s something special about it. That’s the same feeling you get when listening to RiFFiNDoTs’ new EP, “Magick (It’s a good thing that people aren’t)”. It’s like diving into the latest musical creation by RiFFiNDoTs, formerly known as Britta Pejic. With her new EP “Magick (It’s a good thing that people aren’t)”, RiFFiNDoTs revives her musical ethos in a way that lightly touches the edges of the avant-garde, while remaining incredibly appealing.

This year, RiFFiNDoTs has set a hellish pace for herself: releasing a new EP every quarter. Her latest EP “Magick (It’s a good thing that people aren’t)” is the midpoint of this marathon, the second installment of the planned three. The journey started with an EP released in April, and everyone is already looking forward to the third, expected to arrive this fall.

Regarding “Magick…”, there are four tracks – each like a different door into the same strange, yet alluring world. RiFFiNDoTs swirls around you, pulling you into her narrative, inviting you to leave the mundane behind and step into a pulsating world of abstract dreams. In “Magick…”, she taps into the transformative power of music, a force that is both eclectic and purposeful. The tracks vary from ethereal whispers at the beginning to bold, pulsating rhythms in the final composition, with each element smoothly transitioning to the next, creating a seamless exploratory narrative.

RiFFiNDoTs’ vocals are, of course, pure classic. Her voice beckons and commands, as if it knows secret paths between worlds. The lyrics are enigmatic and full of wordplay, and each verse promises to reveal something new with each listening. In “Magick…”, she sings true spells – about transformation, perseverance, and the magic that lives within us all.

The EP “Magick” opens with the track “Filth Tank,” which draws listeners in with its deliberate and contemplative sound. The light indie rock with groovy guitars, excellent rhythm, and stylish bass creates an atmosphere where each chord becomes almost tangible. I appreciate the voluminous vocal line that so harmoniously accentuates the overall mood of the track. RiFFiNDoTs has always been adept at experimenting with music, and in “Filth Tank” the narrator’s voice adds depth to the narrative, while the distorted guitar lines introduce a touch of arthouse flair.

The extended timing of the tracks allows for a deeper appreciation of RiFFiNDoTs’ music. In the titular “Magick (It’s a good thing that people aren’t),” she continues the vibrant summer atmosphere, while adding a bright keyboard part. This lends a lightness to the sound, while RiFFiNDoTs’ vocals constantly navigate the melody between light and dark chords. I like that “Magick (It’s a Good Thing That People Aren’t)” has a musical-like atmosphere with a quite interesting structure. RiFFiNDoTs’ stunning performance here takes on a slower sound, creating a hypnotic sensation and bringing the remarkable arrangement to the forefront.

“BSG” delves into darker tones, with RiFFiNDoTs’ vocals soaring high above the melody. Long phrases and vivid backing vocals create a sense of effortless duality with a melody that explodes into cool hooks in the chorus. This is the kind of track that you want to follow, swaying in time with the music. The captivating rhythm and memorable structure make “BSG” my favorite on the album.

The album concludes with the sunny and rhythmic track “Cat Curse.” The lively rhythm, melodic guitars, light keyboards, and voluminous vocal parts create an atmosphere of ease. It’s a great finale, leaving a sense of incompletion. If you need a track to reboot and energize you, “Cat Curse” is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

RiFFiNDoTs’ EP “Magick (It’s a good thing that people aren’t)” is damn good music, a treasure map for those tired of monotony. Each song here is a unique experiment, where she mixes genres as if blending paints, creating new shades on the canvas. RiFFiNDoTs’ palette is rich: it features deep basses, airy keys, and vintage guitar riffs. Britta Pejic’s vocals are incredibly adaptive—they can be soft and mesmerizing, then abruptly shift to powerful and passionate notes, yet all sounds effortless and not at all straining.

If you need something to stir your heart and mind, look no further. “Magick (It’s a good thing that people aren’t)” by RiFFiNDoTs is just what you need. This album is an example of how music can be a full participant in your life, opening new horizons and perspectives on the world. Take a peek behind the sonic curtains, RiFFiNDoTs will not disappoint, and be prepared: it only gets more interesting from here.
