Irish Blood, Pop Intuition, and a Drum That Sounds Like a Warning—Andrea Magee’s ‘Gemini Darkness’ Has It All

On her latest single, Andrea Magee slides into a slick, moody alt-pop lane that wastes no time hitting the gas. Repping that full-blooded Irish musical DNA, she delivers ‘Gemini (Darkness)’ — a zippy, high-gloss anthem that throws itself headfirst into a tug-of-war between shadow and spotlight, and clearly enjoys every second of the struggle. The track moves with urgency, but there’s this slow-burn tension simmering underneath, like it knows exactly when to strike and when to hold back.

It kicks off with this tight, propulsive groove, polished and radio-ready, but then there’s that bell drum, weirdly tribal and earthy, anchoring the song in something older, almost ritualistic. Vocally, she’s riding a fine line—urgent without pushing, catchy without begging for attention. The chorus hits hard, like, immediately memorable, but there’s a melancholy baked into the sugar.

My gripes? It wraps up maybe a little too neatly. For all the talk of contrast and duality, it doesn’t explode or implode—it just…ends. Clean. Maybe a little too clean for a song that flirts with emotional chaos. Still, this is tight.

SCORE: 7/10
Professional. Thoughtful. Has teeth, but doesn’t bite too deep.
