40 Lashes Find the Sweet Spot Between Heartbreak and Amp Feedback on ‘My Eyes’

You know what this is? This is a bruised little anthem cooked up in a garage that probably smells like stale beer and unresolved feelings. ‘My Eyes’ is the fourth single from 40 Lashes’ upcoming EP, and it’s got that “I can’t believe she said that” energy written all over it.

What starts as a slow, swaying indie rock piece doesn’t stay gentle for long. The guitars come in like an emotional sucker punch—raw, crunchy, with that familiar pop-punk distortion that sounds like it’s been fermenting since 2007. But instead of going full throwback, 40 Lashes throw in just enough grit and emotional rot to make it feel lived-in. Not clean. But right.

Lyrically, it’s all heartbreak and hindsight, but without getting too cryptic or clever. Just open wounds, poured over a warm fuzz of chords and thumping drums that drag themselves through the wreckage.

SCORE 6/10
(But we’re saying 6, ’cause I’m trying to play hard to get.)
The band’s still taking shape, but this one hits. It’s got bones.
