Anson Jones’ new single I Just Want to Hold You is a big warm hug in musical form. It’s R\&B, it’s pop, it’s a little jazzy, a little throwback, a little “hey, remember when love songs didn’t need to be ironic?” And I mean that in the best possible way.
This thing cruises in with a retro-tinted beat that feels like a convertible ride through golden-hour suburbia. The drums have that laid-back, swingy pocket, the bassline is soft-footed but decisive, and the whole production just glows. It’s got the sheen of classic R\&B — smooth, confident, melodic — but with a singer-songwriter’s heart.

It’s also catchy. Maybe deceptively so. There’s a simplicity to it that makes it easy to underestimate, but then you catch yourself humming that hook in line at the grocery store, two hours later, and realize this thing has quietly taken root in your playlist.
SCORE 7.3/10
Light, breezy, affectionate — this one’s a keeper.
