So… You ever hear a song that just clicks? Like, three seconds in and you’re already vibing, no questions asked? That’s Once In A While by Waldo Witt.
Waldo Witt, a.k.a. John Waldo Wittenmyer, has done something that should be illegal under current soft-psychedelic retro pop law. He basically took the soul of 1977 Laurel Canyon, digitized it, ran it through a chorus pedal soaked in tears, and sprinkled some very online millennial despair dust on top.

It’s indie pop, but only in the way that Mac DeMarco’s garden gnome might be indie pop. There’s too much sincerity here. This is a chef’s kiss of a sadboy banger. A serotonin booster wrapped in a heartbreak blanket. A velvet hallucination. A vintage Polaroid of the last time you felt understood.
Score: 9.5/10
(Might be 9.9 if my soul was in one piece and I hadn’t cried at 1:47 into the second listen.)
