Back in 2017, three guys from the small Australian town of Brisbane decided to form their own band under the name “The Inadequates.“
The eccentric name reflects the essence of their music with striking precision. Their sound blends two almost opposing genres: folk and rock. For years, The Inadequates played regional festivals, building up a loyal fan base, yet hesitated to properly release their work—at least until recently.

Just a few days ago, they unveiled a new release titled “Genevieve.” Whether this is a deliberate reference to Saint Genevieve, one of the most significant religious figures in French history, or simply a coincidental choice of name, remains open to interpretation. What is clear, however, is that the band refuses to confine itself to a single direction, constantly enriching its sound while staying true to its style.
“Genevieve” carries a melodic and tender quality. The theme of breakup may be far from new, some might even call it a cliché, yet The Inadequates manage to approach it in a way that feels fresh—experimenting with mood while keeping their signature musical touch intact.
