Kunlé Slows the Tempo on New Double Single, Building Songs Around Home and Return

His music draws on personal views on life and multifaceted musical experience—the journey has been long and stirring, and now the artist exhales. Literally. Kunlé himself describes the release of these singles with the phrase “feels like a quiet exhale after a very long holding of breath.” This metaphor is physically palpable in “Ilé L’àbọ̀“—the song breathes slowly, steadily.

The track rests on Kunlé‘s soft vocals and swaying guitar. The guitar here is the central figure—it drives the narrative, sets the rhythm, creates an atmosphere of peace and calm. The title “Ilé L’àbọ̀” translates as “home” (ilé làbò ìsimi oko), and the song fully lives up to its meaning. Here lives the feeling of returning after a long road, Kunlé approaches simplicity through precision—the arrangement is stripped of unnecessary details, every element in its place.

The music video for “Ilé L’àbọ̀” is assembled from home footage, photographs from travels and the artist’s performances. Kunlé opens his personal archive and shows life as it is. The visual sequence amplifies the atmosphere of home and coziness, captures the moment when bustle gives way to calm.

The second single “Cabana” hasn’t come out yet, but Kunlé describes it as a song about love, grounded in tenderness. The two tracks unite into one story—warm, cozy, built around ideas of return and closeness. The release is conceived as a coherent statement: “Ilé L’àbọ̀” opens the door, “Cabana” continues the conversation.

So stay tuned for further news, because in addition to new music, throughout most of March Kunlé will accompany award winner Shakura S’aida as her guitarist on tour in France, Canada and India. For those wanting to hear him live, it’s worth checking dates in advance.
