Alden Hellmuth has presented a new single ‘Face The Wall’, and this release is also a first glimpse of her upcoming album Tether, which will be released on June 26, 2026 on LEITER. After the notable debut Good Intentions, which brought her a German Jazz Prize, the saxophonist consolidates her status as one of the most intriguing voices on the contemporary scene, balancing between an academic jazz school and a bold, almost punk freedom of expression.

‘Face The Wall’ is perhaps the most straightforward and energetic track from the presented material. It clearly reveals the influence of Deerhoof and Otoboke Beaver, as Hellmuth herself mentions: sharp rhythmic shifts, an almost ‘broken’ structural logic, and a sense of controlled chaos. At the same time, ‘Face The Wall’ has a clear internal cohesion, that very ‘tether’ thanks to which even the most aggressive fragments sound meaningful and engaging. I recommend it!
